Philharmonic Orchestra Kiel, Wunderino-Arena

During the renovation of the concert hall in the Kieler Schloss the Philharmonic Orchestra Kiel is using the Wunderino-Arena for their symphonic concerts. For about 10 weekends per year the large sports arena with more than 13,000 seats is turned into a concert hall for about 1,300 listeners. This is done by a mixture of classical acoustic measures and the electroacoustic enhancement system Vivace. Minimizing the necessary effort for the installation without sacrificing the acoustic result was an important aim in the planning. In the meantime, I need to start really early in the morning at home when travelling to Kiel for supporting one of the concert weekends because the very professional crew of Contzept Veranstaltungstechnik finishes the whole transformation in 8 hours. Travelling to Kiel is very nice and rewarding, not only because of the high artistic standard of the concerts but also for the way the orchestra is presenting selected pieces of the concert program in the highly recommendable lecture-concert series Phil Extrakt.
