Jahrhunderthalle Bochum

The transformation of the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum to the so-called ‘production hall for art’ was a quite large project for me starting in 2001. Numerous site visits for planning and supervising the construction site made Bochum my second hometown for a while. It was the first time for me to deliver not only room and building acoustic services but also the whole range of electroacoustic planning with a large Europe-wide tender including a LARES electronic enhancement system (together with Prof. Karlheinz Müller and Prof. Georg Plenge).

The achieved functionality and flexibility of the venues inside the Jahrhunderthalle is exceptional and I am very happy about the ongoing collaboration concerning smaller venues inside the building over the years. Since its opening in 2003 the Jahrhunderthalle has been one of the main venues of the Ruhrtriennale Festival with some very impressive performances. Gerard Mortier had gathered a fantastic technical team for this festival and meeting or collaborating with one of them after years somewhere in the world is always great.
