Mercatorhalle Duisburg

The replacement of the old multi-purpose town hall in Duisburg by a new building in the heart of the city was my first large-scale new construction project of a concert and conference hall. Including room acoustics, building acoustics, media technology and even vibration control the project filled up most of my time in 2005/06. As a wonderful team of committed colleagues, we were able to deliver something extraordinary under quite complex conditions. The large hall of the Mercatorhalle is a really good concert hall which can be easily transformed into a nice conference/event hall. After a very early renovation of the building due to fire safety issues the Mercatorhalle opened again in 2016. This year I had the privilege to support two ‘acoustic days’ of the Duisburger Philharmoniker under Axel Kober where we tested the influence of the available variable acoustic measures and various orchestra seatings on the acoustics.

Finished: 2007 / 2016
Seats: 2 venues with 500 – 1900 seats
