The church Herz-Jesu in Bregenz is an impressive building with a strong and overwhelming acoustic power. Taming this power to create better intelligibility for the spoken word was the goal of a project which took a couple of years to come to real life. Optimizing the efficiency of the acoustic measures to minimize the visual obtrusion as well as the cost for the church community was achieved by acoustic simulations. The second key element was designing a new sound reinforcement system which takes care of the acoustic environment and delivers time aligned support for all seats.
