Providing a new room acoustical design for the famous Felsenreitschule of the Salzburg Festival was a very demanding task for me. Replacing the tent ceiling above the stage by a more solid but still retractable ceiling and the possibility to redesign the fixed ceiling and the walls around the audience had been the acoustical key points of this project. A lot of acoustic simulations formed new surface structures for these areas resulting in a more present and enveloping sound which made the formerly used acoustic enhancement dispensable. The Vivace system which was installed as a replacement is used for special purposes of individual performances including all kinds of immersive audio tasks. As so often the Salzburg Festival has been ahead of time with this project.
